Wise foody types of PH, please help settle was has become quite a heated and involved argument at work?

On a roast dinner, would you expect to have roast potatoes, mash, or both?

Roast parsnips and carrots are a given... I've just never in my life considered the possibility of having 2 potato options on one plate.

Why? What other meals would you expect to have 2 potato options with?

Both, but given the choice I prefer mash. Probably because I'm very fussy about my roasties... they have to be at the maximum about half the size of a golf ball, and no bigger.

Both it's a northern thing.

Roast, mash and Yorkshires, three helpings of carbs.

I'd start a poll but suspect it would be one sided.

Yorkshire pud; before or with?

Usually with, but a mega slice from a huge slab eaten as a starter in traditional style is on occasions an interesting change.

Mash with a roast dinner? that is just plain wrong

What about some boiled as well? Definitely needed if there's lamb.

(although I could live without the mash)

We've always done both, didn't realise it was a northern thing though. Although my old man is Scottish so maybe that influenced me scratchchin

For convenience, a friend of mine lived with his gran while he was at Uni. It wasn't unknown for his evening meal to include rice, pasta and chips.
