I was hoping to buy my dad something a bit special for his 65th but it seems that whisky and wine of this sort of age is "slightly" out of the budget I had in mind (~£200).

Do any of you have any suggestions for a more cost effective alcoholic beverage from this year that doesn't taste of vinegar? He likes whisky and wine but is also partial to port and pretty much anything else to be honest.

He enjoyed a Bowmore 1994 I got him last year and seems to prefer a "peaty" beverage, on the wine front he seems to drink anything smile

Food-related stuff would also be considered but I'm guessing there isn't much that would last that long smile

You're right, you won't get anything decent on the drink front for your budget, and food options will be very limited (and as a result very expensive), if there is even anything edible.

Why not go for a newspaper from his birthday, accompanied by a bottle of something nice? A quick Google pulled up this website (although you'd probably be better just getting the newspaper and selecting your own bottle from elsewhere, as there's nothing special about the bottle choices there)...
