No, not just "chocolate in industrial quantities" or "cake! let them eat cake! (if there's any left after I've been at it, that is)"

Last night Mrs J wasn't hungry and I couldn't really be arsed, so I made a big pile of braised savoy cabbage with smoky bacon, garlic, pine nuts, season with loads of sage and black pepper*. Splash of milk 5 mins before the end, laaaaaaaaavly. And then pigged the lot whilst watching Law & Order:Criminal Intent.

Another time, I made a pile of mushroom risotto, where the rice/mushroom ratio was about 1:1 and there was enough garlic in it to stun an elephant.

What do you cook when you can only just be arsed to drag yourself into the kitchen?

*And that's another thing. As I get a bit older, the pungent, dark, dense flavours that I used to hate as a child - like sage, cloves, the stuff you scrape off the bottom of the roasting tin to make gravy - seem to make my tastebuds light up with joy

Marmalade on toast. Or marmalade sandwiches.

Wholewheat ribbon noodles and a Dolmio tomato and basil sauce sachet. Takes literally five minutes to make.

If I have the ingredients in, I will make a MASSIVE Caesar salad, with tons of croutons and a generous amount of dressing. And anchovies!

risotto as well, but I just use whats around so, basmati rice, mince, peas sweetcorn etc. Great with some curry powder to sprincle over or add in chilly powder or curry powder while cooking.

Mrs P's favourite comfort food is spaghetti bolognese, mine is a couple of steps further, lasagne (though this is not too quick & easy).

Chilli con carne, long grain boiled rice and jalapeno, cheese and bacon cornbread.

Make the chilli in industrial quantities, then it's just the cornbread that needs to be 'made'.

sausage caserole- 1 pot- brown sausages add chopped onions, garlic, herbs, carrots, potatoes and what ever else is to hand (last time i had beetroot and loads of caugettes). Add a glass of red wine tin of toms and bake in oven uncovered for anywhere from 45mins to an hour and a half until the sauce has reduced and the top has caramelised. If i'm feeling really energetic i'll add a herby cheesy breadcrumb crust at the end and finish under the grill eat with crusty rolls. Takes ten mins to prepare and is very comforting to eat + you get a bottle of wine (minus 1 glass) to drink while it cooks.

Last night could not be bothered to cook anything special. Fried some onion and garlic, chopped some steak into strips, salt and pepper and bunged it in slices of bread, poured over the juices - smashing !
