After a lenghty post of mine in the holidays and travel section, I thought I'd recommend the most amazing coffee I've ever had courtesy of Barnies, a Florida coffee shop chain well worth checking out if you're in the USA (I think they have one in Ireland too).

I ordered a 'personal brew', which is around $2.50. The barista discusses what you like in a coffee in terms of taste, strength and aroma, answers any questions and offers recommendations from a selection of around 40 beans. The beans are then carefully weighed and ground in front of you, whilst the mugs are being heated with hot water of course, then the coffee is allowed to slowly drip whilst you wait, you're then asked what kind of milk you'd like, and whether you'd like it cold or heated.

Easily the best coffee I've ever had and for the equivalent of almost half the price of Starbucks dishwater, I really do hope they expand into the UK.

Monmouth Coffee have a similar process at Borough Market - loads to choose from then brewed up in front of you smile

No offence intended, but what a load of pretentious tosh to go through for a coffee. Did he ask you your star sign as well? hehe

I'd have agreed had it not cost the equivalent of only £1.56, which for a choice of coffee, freshly brewed in front of you, is superb whatever way you look at it. You don't have to go through the rigmarole of being recommended a coffee, you can grunt and point at one, I just happened to wish to learn a little about what was on offer.

It's no offence to me anyway, if you want less pretentious there's always Starbucks et al, but you'll pay more and the coffee won't taste as good.

I'm a Libran, so you can be sure my comments and opinions are well balanced wink

i agree really coffee is coffee really, not the solution to everything and people seem to act like it. But choosing your own beans , you know the ones that come out a monkeys ass hole would be fun.

Bet you were thirsty after that rigmarole - how long are the line ups by the way?

Sounds good so long as the barisstas are less brain dead than Starbucks, Costa etc, they really struggle with the idea that I just want a black coffee, that's a coffee without milk as I have to explain most times!

Just one of the many reasons I bought an office 5 minutes walk away!
