Thanks to Trustmeimadoctor on this thread I bought the £5 M&S Chicken cooker thing.

Excellent first go, unfortunately there aren't any pictures of it coming out of the oven. What with the gravy and other family related issues I simply didn't have time.

Recipe was a combination of tips from the various offerings on the web so in summary I made my own garlic and herb butter to rub on the skin, cooked for an hour and a quarter (1.3kg chicken) then rested for 15 mins. I used the remaining beer in the can in the gravy - I noticed that when steaming there was also a good amount of chicken juices in there too.

Apart from the carrots being cut a bit small it was great, the meat was juicy and tender, the skin crispy and tasty. The spuds went well in the juices too and we've now got a bigger chicken to do it again for some friends tomorrow.

Looking good! I got one too but had to abandon it as the lid on the webber would not close. Ended up like this

Excellent!

I took advantage of the £5 M&S offer, but haven't tried mine yet. White wine / cider are supposed to be good in it too.

Looks rather good!

Another one who bought the £5 M&S one here. Did a test run in the oven, but fell asleep and got a seriously overcooked, malty smelling sparrow on the first run. Dogs liked it though.

Done a few on the BBQ and loved it, so can't wait to try it with the veg etc done on the M&S tray - trying it on Sunday. smile

They're riveted on, so you could with a drill / hammer & punch, but you'd need to rivet them back on if you wanted them in future hehe

Plan B. Weld a can to a baking tray?! smile

Annoyingly I have one of those Panasonic combi-microwave ovens.

I too got one but didn't use it like that.

I poured the liquid into the container at the bottom - shoved the pyramid thing up its bum and plonked it in the fluid. It also means that it's a little lower and it's legs sort of sat either side of the tray in a comical chicken stance.

Doing it this way means you can pour whisky for example into the container at the bottom. Which I may try next time. Whisky flavoured chicken..mmmmm

Beercan chicken sounds like a Rasta saying bacon chicken. I reckon.

That's the plan for the next one - lick

Depending on the strength of flavour of the liquid used do you then pour it into the gravy once it comes out to rest?

Those M&S things are good but the juices do leak out of the holes at the bottom (where you slot the can holder in), which is a bit of a pain in the arse.

Having read the comments on m&s website I refrained from purchasing. May well explain why they were £5! Cynical? Moi?

Unless you knock the back of the plate part inwards slightly then they all pool at the edge allowing you to roast your tats nicely and also re-baste the bird.

I bought one of thaws but have yet to take it out of the box! Is there anything to rectify this or is it necessary? Or is it a case of resting another tray under it?
