Good pub grub between Manchester and Penrith?
Discussion
Hello
Off on my hols to the lake district on saturday. Travelling up from Bristol and was wandering if anyone has a recomendation for some where to stop for some decent pub grub between Manchester and Penrith ideally close to the M6?
Also if anyone has any recommendations for places to eat out in the evening close to Penrith. Ideally looking for modern british reasonably special but not break the bank expensive.
Cheers
Pete

Also close to knutsford, is the Dun Cow.
Which on the route you are doing is a good stop point as that part of the M6 always runs slowly so coming off on junction 18, snaking through a few cheshire country lanes (A50), hitting the Dun Cow then through Knutsford and back on the M6 at jct 19 you have missed a notorious bottle neck and been well fed!
Oh and as mentioned gorped at the Mclaren showroom.

The food here is acceptable, but the location and the surroundings are stunning.

Yeah, I work in Penrith and have lived around the area (Appleby) for 20 years or so.To be honest, I haven't heard from anyone who's eaten at Temple Sowerby for quite a long time, so I couldn't really tell you. No news can be good news...
Whereabouts are you stopping?

There aren't many reviews but the recent ones seem good and its in the Michellin guide which is always a good sign.
Just thought I would feedback from my recent trip.
Thanks for all the suggestions; we went to the Duncow on the way up and then yanwath gate inn, George and Dragon and Temple Sowerby House (my suggestion
) as well as several others not mentioned. out of the suggested places we didnt have one average meal and would thoughroughly recommend them all.
Thanks again

The Bay Horse in just off the Galgate turnoff before you get to Lancaster. It is literally 2mins off the motorway and serves some of the best pub grub in the country. Not too cheap though.
