Bruschetta starter, very quick and easy.

For desert, you could have Gobi, Sahara or Kalahari. wink

But if you'd prefer a dessert instead, I'd go with Eton Mess, delicious!

You could continue the british theme and go with something like a blackpudding and poached egg starter then some kind of crumble for dessert...?

poached pears and a cinammon parfait, can all be done before hand and tastes great.

Starter, maybe a light fish course, something like a small fillet of sea bream each, baked on fennel and orange. Dead easy with the prep and bung in the oven, then pop the fish on cover and finish for 15 min.

I do not mean to criticise but I do not understand the fascination with eaton mess and similar desserts

A couple of ideas for a nice quick starter:

Get some decent bread (something like a sour dough) take a couple of slices and cover with garlic paste (or make your own) - toast in a frying pan.
Then top with either:

1. Feta and broad beans (you'll need to stand the broad beans in boiling water for a few mins first to blanch them).

2. Pan fried thinly sliced courgettes with a good squeeze of lemon juice and plenty of black pepper.

Then for dessert... a decent port or madeira and some good cheese and grapes. I don't really make easy sweet desserts... I suppose the other alternative is to buy some decent chocolate brownies, warm them up slightly and serve with raspberries and creme fraiche.
