Went in to our local Pesco (sp) last night to grab some bits to make the OH a nice meal. I was after some filo pastry. Do you believe they don't sell it. Only at Christmas!! To put it nicely I was shocked. It took me around 15 mins to find someone to ask whether or not they sell it because all they had is puff or shortcrust. The oldish lady I ask, all she come out with is that "I know we sell it at christmas". what good is that to me??. Why only at christmas?? Does my head in how they claim to be the biggest and greatest etc etc and they don't even sell a common pastry to buy. Our local store is the biggest supermarket in our area so it isn't a small shop either.

Rant over.

Have any of you PH's found anything annoying about our supermarkets ??

Filo pastry is a bit of a specialist item. Your local waitrose will probably stock it

Did you look in the freezer section, that's where ours keep the Filo out of the Christmas season when they bring out the non frozen stuff. Also a handy place to look when they have run out of 'fresh' Puff pastry.

Or you could make your own tongue out

I did in the end but it would of saved time if I didn't have too. Yeah the manager I spoke to in the end checked the freezers with no luck!

The supermarkets pretty much have their business down to a science. If the public buy an item in sufficient quantities they will sell it . The unfortunate fact is that people do not cook as much as they did.

Very true. Normally I try to avoid Tesco. it just drives me mad when i'm in there. Normally shop in asda or morrisons which are in our town. but the tesco is on the outskirts near my home so I went in because I thought it was going to be a quick visit and it didn't end up that way.

I saw your thread this morning and thought that I'd have a look whislt I was in my local Tesco after work.

They had the full range of fresh pastry, including puff, shortcrust as well as fillo. It was even on offer as well.

Apart from empty shelves the biggest annoyance is moving things around. 2 months ago someone decided that Marmite belonged in the baking aisle besides the preserves and jelly mixes.

Fair enough they moved it, but they could have informed the staff. Every one I asked, and everyone they asked all pointed to the same aisle where it had always been for years...besides the beans.

Another one would be similar items located in two different areas for vastly different prices. I wanted a multi socket power strip thing, asked where they were, directed to the electronics aisle where the tellies etc are. I thought they were a bit dear at , so figured I could get one cheaper on Ebay and left it to continue shopping. Got to the aisle with the light bulbs (nowhere near electronics) and found some others there for near enough half the price. Certainly left me wondering if staff were instructed to point customers to the more expensive ones first.

I avoid Tesco like the plague, full of useless crap and laid out by a 2yr old. Sainsburys are our preferred option, especially once you boost Nectar points up to triple (house/pet insurance).

when I'm in town I do use sainsburys and I have never had a problem with them but maybe that's cause I don't use them all the time ???

What is the whole concept of a Nectar card??

Same as Tesco Clubcard. (though you can use it in other paces to collect points)

What sort of area do you live in? Many council estates about?

Tesco do stock differently depending on socio-economic factors, bognor and chichester stores are a prime example of this

My thoughts too.

They used to say you could tell how posh your area is by the shelf footage devoted to olive oil. Obviously it's now filo pastry!

haha ... well our Olive oil section is well stocked and my collection of Olive oil is like a shelf in Tesco as well but still no filo pastry though! Nah the odd estate in town but the Tesco is about 1.5 mile from town on the out skirts.

Guessing I've got to wait until Christmas... biggrin

Better imo - you can spend points straight off the card instead of waiting for vouchers.

Even the little Tesco on the high street here does filo; never had a problem buying it.
