Recommend a reasonably priced quirky restaurant in London?
Discussion
Hi all!
Am going up to visit my girlfriend at Uni next week, she came out of hospital Sunday after having her appendix out and has been a bit miserable having to stay in and rest so I would like to take her out to eat on Thursday night and try to cheer her up.
Her halls are on Rosebery Ave in Islington but I guess we can get the tube/bus to pretty much anywhere.
We eat anything, she's really into sea food and I really like chinese/indian, somewhere quite quirky and modern would suit us I think. I don't want to spend the Earth, maybe £30pp for two courses?
Open to all suggestions though, I have looked through the other London threads in the first few pages of FD&R and have been making notes
.if you dont mind getting on the bus (I think if you walk up ros'b av you can get the 243 from the clerkenwell road) then book a table at mien tay on the kingsland road. its cheap, you can bring your own booze in, and the food is fab. a starter, main and side wont set you back more than 25ish quid for the 2 of you for service. Its a bit like eating in someones house when youre there!

+1 Almost all of the Vietnamese places on Kingsland Road are good.
Whenever I agree to go and visit my wifes family in Essex, I always insist on a Vietnamese on the way back as a way of making the trip more bearable. Try the Salt & Pepper soft shell crab if you want to try some unusual seafood. They often to whole fried fish with various tasty dressings which are also very good. You'll eat like a king for about £20 each. There are some very quaffable Vietnamese beers as well. (Try Hue or Hanoi).

A tremendous restaurant, for 30 pp they might even let you touch the menu.Tayabs is a good place to eat but I cannot stand how unorganised they are when you arrive, even if you have booked. together with the fact that when they are busy you might also have a snake like Q going past your table when youre trying to eat it, it can all just be a bit too much if you are after a relaxing meal out..
Morito is awsome on Exmouth Market http://www.exmouth-market.com/morito-tapas-bar.htm...
You can go to Caravan for cocktails after as well, which is 5 seconds walk away http://caravanonexmouth.co.uk/
Alternatively, Cottons does great Carribbean food, also on Exmouth Market http://www.restaurant-islington.co.uk however it's never been that busy when I've been (not in a good way)
By the way if you stand with your back to the front door of Rosebery Hall facing Rosebery Avenue, I live directly opposite!

belgo in covent garden is alright if you like your mussels, its rather quirky inside as you take a lift down in to an open kitchen and the waiters are dressed as trapist monks. they serve a wide range of bottled beers along with the mussels in various sauces.
pretty cheap and they do a beat the clock promo so if you order at 6.30 you pay £6.30 etc (ends at 7pm i believe)
