Anyone know about Port?
Discussion
I never tried port till this year when I recieved a bottle for my birthday! I have no idea what that bottle will be like but cant really go wrong!
What ive learnt so far is that £10 will buy a really nice bottle, lidl sell some rubbish at £5 and tesco do a good one for £6.
Dive in! and if you dont like it - put it in the post to me!

I do enjoy Port and will certainly be drinking it... Just secretly hoping it was worth a few hundred quid
It does have LB on it, is that a good thing?
A couple of years ago we found two very special bottles of Port at my Grandfather-in-law's house when we were cleaning the place out after he died. 1963 Sandeman's and a 1975 Colheita. Eventually found out they were worth around £130 and £150, respectively. But very hard to sell unless in a case of 6.

In the end we drank them at Christmas. They were bloody lovely.

Looks like 'LP' to me.
It'll be LB, for Late Bottled. This link will give you a brief overview of what that means: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Port_wine#Late_bottle...
Unlikely to be any merit in hanging on to it much longer...
Actually visited the Noval Port house a few weeks back; tried some excellent ports including a 40yr old Tawny and a 1980 vintage.
As others have mentioned the LB will almost certainly stand for Late Bottled Vintage; although you'd usually expect a year on there as well.
Let us know what it was like :-)

Sediment is good. Just make sure its stood long enough to settle (can be a few days). If its too cloudy, decant through a muslin to remove the sediment but pour slowly and stop when the main sediment starts to come out (often the bottom 1/2" of the bottle)
There is no date so its unlikely to be a specific vintage, meaning its the producer's standard issue bottle - most ports are pretty good but some are very special.
1963 is expensive now, 77 is more drinkable and 83 a bit cheaper and not much difference unless you're being really snobby about it.
Get some cheese, crack open the bottle and make an evening of it
