After buying a bread maker I am happily enjoying the fresh bread...

I have been using the electric knife to cut it which is great but a bit of a faf to keep getting in and out..

our old bread knife is cheap and well past its best, any recommendations for a good make?

I'd try sharpening it properly before you throw it out.

I've revived knives that were given to my parents as wedding presents (in 1964) with my Minosharp ceramic three-wheeler.

its well past its best... there are hardly any serrations left and the plastic handle is cracked!

time for a replacement.... May as well get a decent one, without going over the top though...

if you want a good bread knife or any knife for that matter, then look for the taylors eye witness brand .

very good knives, and dont be put off by their low prices. they put some of my more very expensive chefs knives to shame.

These are brilliant - not strictly meant as a bread knife, but does a better job than most actual bread knives:

They do a slightly posher version with a rosewood handle too:

I've got about 8 TEWs .... washed in cold water, and sharpned with chancery sharpener before each use...... still looking good after 11 years, and still sharp following my regime smile
