Hello

I need some help please. I have some beef (cubed) tins of tomatoes, beef stock, herbs, onions etc. Does think sound like some sort of recipe that is edible in a slow cooker? 8 hours? Sorry i am a slow cooker noob.

Thanks

Marf

Sounds like a good starting point for some beef stew! Get some red wine too, google a recipe and roberts your mothers brother smile

yes
You could cook the whole "stew" & let it mature overnight.
Though it is nice to open the door & come home to the smell of a home cooked meal lick

Definitely; toss in seasoned flour first. Sizzle in hot fat until brown. I'd also chuck the chopped onion in for a few minutes at this stage.
Chop some suitable veg. and put the whole lot in a casserole or slow cooker with just enough water to cover for several hours.

A bit less liquid (I think) if using a slow cooker. No more than 2/3 of the way up the meat.

The slow cooker will lose less liquid to evaporation than a casserole in the oven due to its lower temperature and close-fitting lid.

You can always add more if it's too dry.

Quick update on this.

The slow cooker I was given didn't actually work, I popped it on and 4 hours later when I returned home, no nice smell frown

So I did it in the oven on 140oC for 4 hours, too long as the sauce had reduced massivley. Very rich but quite nice.

[Mr Punch]That's the way to do it[/Mr Punch]
Follow a recipe. Modify it next time. At least it was edible.

I'm a casserole enthusiast - what's the benefit of a slow cooker above a le creuset dish in the oven?

Any other casserole ideas?

I've been doing pork chops, covered with loads of cooking apples, dash of white wine, garlic and onion and random veggies nom nom!

Uses less energy.
