He's done it again hasn't he? Mr Oliver has devised a truly awesome recipe which is accessible, easy to follow and unbelievably delicious. I urge any foodies here to try it.

Saw this last week on channel 4, gonna give it a whirl at weekend I think. Never made a homemade pie before so could end in disaster.

A welcome addition in terms of texture. It also takes on flavour from the stock which, at the time of adding the barley is already thick and flavourful.

If you don't like it, chances are you've never been served a decent dish with it in.

I really hate the look of those sort of pies - just seems a bit lazy. Basically a stew with some puff pastry cooked separately and stuck on top. Not right!

Agreed, a proper pie isn't just a pastry lid.

Yes, it's like people who say they're having a barbeque when all they're doing is cooking outside with what is essentially a gas grill.
