I'm taking the wife to the theatre after Christmas and would also like a decent restaurant to take her to, theatre is in Aldwych so Strand, Covent Gdn, Embankment areas would be perfect.
Ideally good Engish or French cuisine would be preferred, we've done Clos Maggiore and loved it but would like to try somewhere different.

Rules, The Ivy, Roubechon, Hawksmoore, J Sheekey, Pearl.

All within 5 mins of where you'll be.

Expensive, but fantastic, especially at the counter.

Completely different, but great: Bocca di Lupo.

Not as special, but smack bang in the right place in Sophie's Steakhouse in Covent Garden (just off Aldwych). Good food, nice atmosphere, not silly prices, and no need to book. Creme brulee and Eton Mess is very nice as well ;-)

Just walked past it on my way home last night, at the old site of Bank Aldwych a new restaurant called The Delauney, literally opened within the week, looked lovely through the windows.
