Christmas wine...
Discussion
I popped into our local Majestic yesterday to get some wine for Christmas Day, and they had some interesting offers on. I spotted a New Zealand Pinot Noir that they had on tasting, so I went and tried it. It was OK, but nothing special for a tenner. Sat behind the Pinot on the tasting counter was a 2002 Medoc on offer at £8. IT IS FANTASTIC! So I bought a few... Oh, and a bottle of Cloudy Bay Pelorus Rose (which isn't showing online) for the missus.
This got me wondering, what is everyone having with their Christmas din-dins?

I'm not surprised you were underwhelmed by the NZ pinot noir. I've not had a decent one from Marlborough yet. This got me wondering, what is everyone having with their Christmas din-dins?
The good ones are from the Wairarapa (North Island), however these are Burgundy prices +.
Pottering about before - Prosecco with Chestnut liqueur. All Christmassy like.
Salmon - Denbies Whitedowns Cuvee. Can see the vines from the kitchen.
Turkey - Inama Carmenère Più 2009. Wonderfully smooth and silky, and totally unregional wine from the Vennetto.
Pudding and cheese as yet undecided.
But some Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns 2004 will make an appearance at some point

Hmm, where do you get the chestnut liqueur from? Sounds interesting...Salmon - Denbies Whitedowns Cuvee. Can see the vines from the kitchen.

Thinking about it, we'll probably have a similar setup over the day, I was just interested what people preferred with their turkey/goose/duck/kebab.
Our day is probably:
Bubbly (including the Pelorus above) with the smoked salmon sandwiches mid-morning.
Meursault with the starter (crab something...)
The Medoc with the turkey (although that Chambolle sounds good!)
And a Pedro Ximenez Triana sherry (chilled) with the Christmas pud.
That should keep us all going....
I've got some local bubbles from Ridgeview to get everyone warmed up
A Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco will go with the cured salmon
Sirloin roast will be accompanied by Masseria Torre Rossa Malvesia Nera (my current favourite frequent drinker)
Last but not least, pudding will be washed down with a Saint Clair Noble Riesling that I couldn't resist after a tasting last night.
