This is the thread for people to share their love of the wonderful pickled gherkin. 
How do you like yours, spicey, sour sweet, kosher?
In a moment of boredom I've just ordered three 2.5kg jars of these lovely proper chip shop Dutch NVR gherkins, as I find the general choice in supermarkets quite limited, and they've stopped doing Kune American Giants for some reason.
Small cocktail gherkins just don't do it for me, they have to be the big juicy sweet and sour kind.

Can't say I've ever had a spicy Gherkin, but I love the sweet and sour kind. Agree about the choice being limited, in my local supermarket you can either get cocktail sized ones or nothing at all. I will remember to check for other options next time I'm down at an Asda or Tesco hypermarket.
I have some "Hot" pickled onions at home atm, and while they are nice tbh they are just a pickled onion in vinegar with chilli and mustard seeds thrown in. The onion itself is not spicey, you just get a mild warmth from the vinegar.

Like above only ever had the sweet/sour ones from the supermarket....
I like them sliced up in a beef roll ... not something I made up, had what I thaught was a beef roll from site canteen and it had gerkins in it, initially I thaught yuk.. but was hungry so ate it much to delight. The women in the canteen are from the old eastern block countries so we do get some odd combos occasionally.

Yep that's what my dad has always called them, my Gran n Grandad used to run a dairy/small food shop in South London and had used to stock Opies (who are now a big brand name) after the war ....... and he still craves pickled walnuts (yuk) or with cold cuts, mash and other pickles, including pickled eggs, particularly on boxing day
