This Morphy Richards one does a good job of waking me up every morning:

Just don't forget to put the jug underneath it before going to bed as I did one day last week...

I've got the ceramic version of this thing (which amazon seem to have sold out of) and just use that with filter papers.
A plastic version would work, but I don't like them since over time the plastic absorbs the oils from the coffee and imparts a stale taste to the fresh brew.
As do plastic permanent filters on coffee machines - find a metal one if you can.

These are very difficult to find, and going for £30-odd on Ebay.

I was going to ask about these again. Thus purchased a Hasbean ceramic and will see what it is like.
MC? Where do you order your filters from?
Most biggish supermarkets sell them.MC? Where do you order your filters from?
Still in the same place? I'm fairly sure that Waitrose on Marylebone High St will have them.
ETA: Waitrose own label 'Columbian Blend' filter coffee is by far and away my favourite for all-round smoothness but with a bit of bite.

I have the next model up from that. I've had it for about a month and tbh I'm going to take it back for a refund. Two reasons, the main one that the coffee isn't hot enough. It's barely hot when first brewed so as soon as you ad milk it's only luke-warm. Even if you leave it on the hotplate for 20 mins it's still not hot enough. Second reason is the clock loses about 2 minutes a day so you have to keep resetting the time.http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001CDFJBE

I think it was MC's suggestion that led me to try filter coffee and I've not looked back since. Sound advice.
