Have just seen the Man V Food series on sky and this got me wondering...

Normally at the end of the show, the host Adam performs an eating challenge along the lines of eating huge quantities of food to get his name in lights on the restaurant wall or maybe eating the hottest chilli type food before passing out.

Are there any eateries in the UK whereby you can eat a huge quantity of food to earn some bragging rights and get your name on the board etc
I'm sure I've heard of restaurants where if you finish the plate it's a free meal....or is this more of an American pastime?

Place in Bournemouth 'Steakout' does a 50lb rump steak for £50, I think if you finish it you don't pay and get your name on the wall. I think the record to finish it is something like 14 minutes.

That would be 50 ounces not 50 pounds. You have 40 minutes to finish it :- http://www.steakoutrestaurants.co.uk/our_menu2.htm...

I ate the 60 oz steak at http://grillssteakhouse.co.uk/Challenges.html last year. Steak was ok, mushrooms / tomato ok, serving bowl full of chips did me in frown

The guys in the restaurant were surprised that a 'small' (I'm not that small - 5'9ish, 13 stone) guy could do so well.

Also ate a phaal a few years ago for a dare.

i have just discovered this show... makes me hungry but i'm surprised in today's worried world that programmes like that are allowed!

Some of the food is a bit yank i.e. bland but big.

I like the look of their 60oz mixed grill, reckon I could demolish that no problem lick

Sadly the biggest steak I've tried has been a piffling 28oz.

No.

I've watched it from Series 1, and all I ever think is, "why can we not get good cheap food like that over here?"

Example? The episode from this place was droooooooolsome:

I've watched someone try the Big Texan 72oz steak challenge live.

After 20 minutes he looked had the appearance of someone who has realised they have made a big, big mistake!

By 40 mins he looked like he was going to vom. He didnt finish it.

I'd happily give any of the challenges a go...except for that 72 oyster one!
