So, chinese takeaway favourites, what're yours? Describe if not a common one!

I think these go without saying:

Crispy chilli beef - strips of sometimes crispy beef in red sauce with chillis.

Seaweed - deep fried shredded cabbage/or something

Salt and Pepper king prawn - prawns in batter with onion and chilli, usually spicy

Balls - of one variety or another, big battered lumps sometimes containing meat of a sort.

Singapore noodles - good VFM, square noodles, with all sorts in, nice when hot and spicy of course!

Duck pancakes - pancakes, cucumber, plum sauce and some deep fried duck, yum smile

So whats yours?

Seaweed perhaps? Just a guess, but I think the clue is in the name

Except that it is actually cabbage and not seaweed, so the clue... er... is not in the name.

I like the Chinese version of chicken curry . Mustardy sauce with big chunks of onion. Probably not authentic in any way but seems to taste the same wherever you buy it from

I always order the same from my local:

Egg fried rice
Half portion of Sweet & Sour Chicken balls
Sweet & Sour Pork Hong Kong style
Bean Sprouts
A portion of Curry Sauce

If I want to be healthy I add

A portion of Chinese Green Leaf biggrin

Forgot another good one - Deep fried shredded smoked chicken. Not hot nor really smokey but usually quite nice and crunchy chicken strips.

I've got a book here, secrets of the chinese takeaway, which is more or less all the recipes & seaweed is cabbage, dried out & fried with brown sugar.

Yes I have actually. It's really easy, you simply buy a big tub of the correct paste from your local chinese wholesaler, dilute with hot water then chuck in onions and diced chicken. They all use the same paste hence it's the same wherever you go. It's surprising how soon you tire of it, once you can have it whenever you like.

From the Mei House in Epsom.

Their salt and chilli chicken and Singapore noodles are to die for.

A decent bit of heat in both. lick
