Central Edinburgh, someone good to eat on your own

Oh this is getting silly now - I can't edit the thread title?

It should say "Somewhere" (not looking for a hooker ) - So any thoughts?

Restaurant/bar with good food in central Edinburgh which is comfortable to eat at on your own as I'll be there alone on business?

The bar/restaurant at the Scotsman hotel is very, very nice.

Vittoria's - Italian it's about 10 minutes from Princes St; the food is fantastic and lots of small 'rooms' within the dining area so you shouldn't feel too self-conscious on your own.

Been a few years since I was last up there but if you wander down Dundas Street you will come to Kweilin on your right - ex-colleagues of mine who work further down the road used to swear by this place and it was good - though anything could have happened in the lastt 4 years.

I take it you mean night time but if you have time and it is a nice day. Sit in one of the starbucks on george street and do a bit of car spotting. There is always something interesting going along the road there.

Milnes on Rose street is good. General pub food menu but all done to a good quality. Sit down stairs there are more little alcoves to hide in.

The Albanach on the royal mile is good for food and also has a huge amount of whisky behind the bar.

Browns on George Street is very good.

Seconded the Cafe Royal. You can eat in the Bar and people watch.

Plenty of people up on there own with RBS & BOS and others that it is not uncommon.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions - I did wander down to Cafe Royal and it looked great, but sadly I was far from alone in that view and there wasn't a free seat in the place, so I actually ended up eating in my hotel bar!

If I'm there again though, I will make a point of going back.
