Interesting 'nibbles' ideas - impress me
Discussion
Morning All,
Got some friends and family coming round for an informal gathering. Want to put on a bit of food but nothing that requires me having to spend more than 5mins in the kitchen whilst they are here (detracts from drinking time) and house is open plan so don't want cooking smells.
Looking for some interesting ideas beyond the obvious M&S party food. Don't mind spending hours prepping. For some reason my mind is just a blank on what to serve.
So please share your knock-out snack/nibbles/finger food ideas.
cheers
Adam

Instead of pork scratchings, I make lamb scratchings - slightly sweeter but just as addictive. When taking fat off of a joint or trimming cubed meat, cut into small 1/4"dice and put into a dry pan over a medium heat. Stir frequently until the fat is rendered out. Remove the scratchings with a slotted spoon placing on kitchen towel and use the fat to fry meat cubes for indian curries. Two in one result !

This is the sort of stuff I'm after....sorry should have said I'm from Halifax, ie an inbred northern rugby town. If I serve salad my friends will think I've being to the Waitrose in Leeds shoplifting :-)
This can all be pretty much prepped beforehand:
Thinly sliced baguette, toasted/grilled and then spread with duck or chicken liver pâté, then topped with sliced duck breast. It's best warm, but you can get away with serving it at room temp.
You can make them as small or as big/thick as you like to cater for all occasions.
Maybe top off with some red currant jelly or similar?

if there is a posho deli near you get some of this stuff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sobrassada
and put it on thin crunchy slices of baguette. Its like chorizo pate.
basically, things on toast works well and is filling for drinkers.

Sushi!!
Failing that peanuts in small bowls, or maybe go retro, pineapple and cheese on cocktail sticks with some prawn volavons
Sushi - now that sounds interesting to make. Made a gorgeous Spiced Duck Ramen at the weekend - but dont like my guests that much to give them a duck breast each, especially not at Sainsburys £7 for 2 ...robbing fFailing that peanuts in small bowls, or maybe go retro, pineapple and cheese on cocktail sticks with some prawn volavons

Your other option is cocktail blinis. Too with Philly and smoked salmon or mackerel pâté or anything that takes your fancy.
Failing all that, what about cheese and pineapple or cheese and pickled onions on cocktail sticks?!!
You should have your own website www.dibblesnibbles.comFailing all that, what about cheese and pineapple or cheese and pickled onions on cocktail sticks?!!
