Cotswolds restaurant

Hi all,

Looking to treat my girlfriend for her birthday to a trip to Gloucestershire area and have dinner in a nice pub/restaurant with views over the countryside. Nothing extremely expensive please.

Does anyone have any suggestions or places they would recommend, and as you know there is no room for error when it comes to the gf!! hehe.

One to avoid: 'The Cottage in the Wood' in Malvern.

Horribly inconsistent in terms of food. My starter (can't remember what it was) was ok, but my main of lamb was grey and greasy.

Glowing reviews on tripadvisor, etc are I suspect BS.

Calcot Manor is worth a look, the gf would certainly be impressed!

The Swan in Southrop. Always had wonderful meals there.

Yep, Gumstool Inn there is excellent.

Tipputs Inn, a just south of Nailsworth on the A46 is nice.

Halfway House at Box (near Minchinhampton) is also nice.

Thanks for all the help, checked them all out and had a good look. As my budget doesn't stretch very far this year the most suitable place in my opinion is The Seagrave Arms, what are the views like from the rooms? also is the food nice?

p.s: Calcot Manor looks stunning but £400+ for a room...I jumped straight for the 'x' in the corner unfortunately lol

Wise words, the Sawday's guides are excellent; although not always food focussed, I've never been disappointed with anywhere I've stayed.
