Different birthday meal ideas for the wife

I'm after some help from the foodie's of Pistonheads. The Mrs's birthday is coming up in a month or so and I am trying to find somewhere to take her for a meal and proably a night away from junior.
Bit of background - we've eaten at a few Michelin starred places and although we like fine dining, we had a disaster of a meal in a stared place in Brum last year, when I tried toplay it safe. To make up for it I'd like to treat her to something different this time around.
I'm open to all offers but it needs to be good food and ideally a nice place to lay our heads. I've got in my head somthing like really good pub food or a brilliant steak, but I'm stuck on actual places.
Any ideas appreciated.

A above, the crazy bears are nice. It depends on what you're after though? Are you looking to make a whole evening of the meal?
If so, you can't go far wrong with something like the tasting menu at The Ledbury in London. Easily the best meal i've EVER eaten. We were there for over 4 hours, and it was a brilliant evening and experience! On top of that it was voted something like 34th best restaurant in the whole world! Literally blew me away!
Alternatively, for something abit different what about a Teppanyaki? Benihana or somewhere similar, where the Japanese chef cooks the meal in front of you? Again, another great experience, but like most places you'll be in and out within 1.5 hours, hence why i recomended a tasting menu!

Not fussed about the meal lasting the evening. As much as we like tasting menus and fine dining, I want something different this time. P.S. Try Tyddyn Llan or crown at whitebrook in Wales for a tasting menu - 9 courses and both are absolutely supurb!

I've just been looking at Hotel du Vin! Didnt see the wine tasting though... will investigate more.Sadly for me my wife isnt that keen on puddings - I am though, might be a suggestion for my birthday!
Stadhampton Crazy Bear is one of my locals! Foods good , staff are great and the diferent eating rooms are novel/ quirky. Main bar is busy and not very big but enjoy bustle and people watching. Always enjoy visiting, background music they play is great and not invasive.
