Good food in Blackpool.

You could try the Empress Grill in the Winter Gardens - right in the town centre. It's operated by 'Heathcotes Outside' - well known restauranteurs in Lancashire. Their website has a sample menu - we ate there about six months and whilst it wasn't that busy (we were there at 6pm) the food was good.
Otherwise, apart from Kwizeen there isn't much else in Blackpool centre other than those you want to avoid. There is a really good upmarket Indian called the Jali on the prom about 15 mins walk north from the Tower (can't remember the name of the hotel). A couple of stations on the train, Poulton is a good night out with a few decent restaurants and some decent pubs.
A bit further afield there is Twelve in Thornton - probably 15-20 mins in taxi - have a look at the webite - bloody good but not cheap.

West Coast? Doesn't have the charm it used to though.
