Why does it say on the packet 'produced in Thailand'??

Thats 8k + miles away ... is it because they have different laws to us so are allowed to inject them with st and get away with it?

Lower animal welfare standards as well.

It's probably costs less to ship a freezer container from Thailand to Harwich than it does to drive the container from Harwich to the distribution centre and onto your local Tesco.

problem is to be called british it just has to be parked in the UK 8 weeks before slaughter so they can do what they like to eat in a country outside the regs and then stick a UK flag on it

How do you know it's British? Or, put another way, how do you know it's not imported but marked as British because it fulfils certain criteria?

Given that battery farmed chickens are usually ready for sale by about 6 weeks old, I'm not sure your point is valid.

It's a big con - even if the bird was reared in Thailand (avoiding EU regulations for care possibly?) the final product can still be labelled as made in britain, as that is where most the value has been added. There is no requirement to say where the animal was reared, which is terrible....

I can't remember the exact wording but it said something along the lines of reared in thailand, packaged in the UK

weve just recently caught onto this , meat from a decent butchers is WAY WAY nicer and similar price , its also nice how you can buy the amount you need rather than a pre packed slab

We use a butchers that's been family owned for 40 years, lovely meat all local and traceable. If I want one sausage I can buy just one home made sausage. It's very rare now that we buy anything from the big supermarket. Buy local and keep the small business going.

A very large proportion of butchers sell the stuff that falls outside the quality criteria for supermarkets!

(I was at a large agricultural show recently, where several 'butchers' were selling meat sourced from the large suppliers such as ABP and Randall-Parker... one was even trying to sell generic British pork as 'regionally sourced')

They're also often no different in the grand scheme, just in different ways.
