Just put this lot in the slow cooker... 1kg beef mince (browned), three diced peppers (red, green & orange), four large diced chillies (2 red, 2 green, with seeds), a diced onion, dried chilli flakes, passata, some beef bouillon, a splash of thai fish sauce, seasoning, and a bit of water. It'll cook for a few hours.

Towards the end I'll add red kidney beans and some chopped parsley, and also the secret ingredient... a couple of squares of dark chocolate. I'm still not sure if I should add some Dave's Gourmet Ghost Pepper sauce as well... probably going to taste it later before I make a final decision. Time to put Andrex in the fridge for tomorrow! biggrin

Will be serving some of the chilli topped with grated cheese and sour cream, and accompanied by some garlic pizza bread. I'm really looking forward to it! Pics to follow later. The rest of the chilli will be had tomorrow or Monday, they say it's usually even better after a day or two.

Do any of you have any interesting or unusual ingredients that you like to put in a chilli?

Don't like chilli!
Don't want to see pics!

OK I'm lying, I love chilli lick
Dark chocolate is a good "secret" ingredient
A while ago mum made Nigella's (I think, or it was Deliah's) chilli which had chorizo in it, it was nice, but not proper chilli.

Oxtail. It's wonderful but needs slow cooking for hours.

Didn't add any hot sauce in the end, it was spicy enough! Delicious.

I put streaky bacon in instead of using salt (left over cooked crispy streaky). Gives some salt in there and another texture/taste.

I use mushrooms instead of the beans and sugar in place of chocolate. Yummy

Mushrooms (any kind), dried and powdered make a useful flavour enhancer to any dish.

If you've ever got a few mushrooms left over - don't throw them out!

Slice and dry them on paper towels over a radiator, then store them in an air-tight jar until needed.

Anyone fancy posting up their preferred chilli recipe? Never made any myself but highly tempted after those pics.

There's a big thread about it, will post a link when not on mobile.
