Dinner at the Ritz

Hello,

Looking for some advise thinking of taking the girlfriend to the Ritz for dinner next month as a suprise.
Would like to know what people think of it ?

If the Ritz is not any good would you recommend any other upmarket resturants in central London.

Personally, I was very disappointed. Everything was well cooked, but a lot of the dishes just didn't work together.
Just my opinion, obviously

Afternoon tea would be good, just looked on there site and £54.00 for champangne tea i think is quite reasonable ill look into that then dinner somewhere else ill look through the resturants you have recommended .

Has anyone eaten at Gordon Ramsay's at Claridges or Gary Rhodes tower place?

I have a personal rule about not going anywhere that requires you to vacate the table by a certain time: not sure if the Ritz still does this, but they certainly used to.

FWIW, The Dorchester gets our vote for tea when we're in town.

The Ritz has had a new chef over the last 12 months and has really stepped up its game - worth a punt now (not before).

Dorchester is fantastic, Claridges has gone down hill, avoid Gary Rhodes and Pearl is hit-n-miss. Arbutus is good but not especially swanky, for me Le Gavroche is king of swank.

I had the Champagne tea in April as part of my 40th birthday surprise from my wife. It was nice but my main suprise was dinner at The Ledbury in Notting Hill. Both food and service was out of this world and the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed.

I would skip the ritz, although the dining room is v impressive - the American ambassador was on the next table to me last time I went (which was some years ago)

Royal hospital road is, in my opinion, the best restaurant in London (I have lunch there regularly) you will struggle to get a table in the evening though I'm afraid

Gary Rhodes is pretty good (posh English food) and he does a massive Jaffa cake thing for dessert. E view is pretty good, although I haven't been there for a year or so (so don't know if the view has been affected by all the new buildings). You can go to the champagne bar (vertigo) before or after dinner - need to book a table though as its tiny up there.

Le Gavroche is still quite possibly the world's finest restaurant. When I am in London and feel like spending lots of money it's tea at the Ritz and dinner at Le Gavroche.

I'd give it some serious thought.

Just had a look on the website and sample menus look good
No prices though, now my mother always taught me "if you have to ask the price of something you can't afford it"
But I'm going to ask how much will dinner for us two set me back ? You regular 3/4 course bottle of wine and water etc

Edit: just seen prices on the booking page 180 with wine doesnt seem to bad I reckon !

The Ritz is for afternoon tea not dinner!

If lunch is an option then at Le Gavroche its excellent value at £51 per head inc 1/2 bottle wine.
