Hi all, I bought some chicken breasts last friday from a cheap
butchers, he put them in a plastic bag and sealed it up.

When I got home I put them in the fridge and forgot them until now.

Do you think they will be OK. I really don't want to unseal the
bag if it's going to stink my house out.

Dustbin day is six days away.

Thanks for any comments.

In times past unscrupulous vendors would wash smelly chicken in water and ash and then sell it anyway. I wonder what happens these days... scratchchin

Just take them outside and see how they smell.

Boil them up for dog/cat food.

If its from a cheapo butcher they will have been frozen already. Nasty cheap butchers are a waste of money.

Poke a small hole in the bag, you will be able to smell straight away if it's "gone". If it hasn't you could freeze it, or cook it. If you were to cook it, personally I would just boil it, that way you will have the base for a reasonable stock which you could reduce with a little white wine and maybe some herbs. Then you could casserole the chicken. If it has gone you need to dispose of it, if it is so long until your bin gets emptied just freeze the chicken and chuck it in the bin when you take it outside to be emptied. Mark the chicken so you know which to throw away.

I'm always one who eats anything , even out of date stuff, but chicken often goes smelly even before the bbf date.

Throw them out !

Many thanks for all the replies.

Had an idea that there are bins outside shops, these get emptied every day round here.So I took it to the local shop. Job Jobbed.

I have the weakest stomach on earth, and just could'nt face it
for the sake of a tenner.

Thanks again.

Chicken is very good at letting you know when it's turning bad.
If it smells normal it's fine.
If it smells like death, bin it.
There tends to be no in-between, so it's incredibly straightforward.
