Just won meal for 2 draw at work - where to go?

Just had my name pulled out the hat at work for the meal for 2 prize draw. Company will contribute £200 towards a dinner out (this can cover anything - meal / transport / baby-sitting costs).

Missus and I like Italian and Modern European - but anything quirky (e.g. Heston) might be wasted on my wife who is not a massive foody.

Forgot we also like French so Petrus, The Ledbury and Clos Maggiore would be options if we wanted to blow the lot in one go (it is flexible so could split it for lunch and dinner).

Try L'Oranger in St James - it is exquisite (in my view)

Well Maggiore is a bit of a French/Italian mix I believe.

We are based in Hertfordshire so easy access to London.

Well I was thinking it was a bit cheap for your budget but if you're splitting the budget give some consideration to belgo.

Or evan better go to belgo at 2pm and see how far down the beer list you can get before they call an ambulance...

On that note, if spending 2 ton presents a challenge, because lets face it you can eat like a king for much less, how about somewhere with some really fine and rather pricey whiskey/tipple of choice you'd not normally stretch to?

It's quite pricey for what you get .. but you pay for the view .. and for £200 you could probably take her up there twice.

Wild Honey just south of Oxford Street is very good - and doesnt quite carry the "celebrity tax" of the Ramsay places. You could probably use what you dont spend on dinner for two there for a nice sushi lunch in Soho.

We had a fantastic meal here - http://www.kingsheadivinghoe.co.uk/index.php a couple of months ago (we've now eaten there three times - Wedding breakfast, 1st year anniversary and 4th year anniversary.

Very personal service, small but friendly dining room and above all else fantastic food.

Edited to add: Three course dinner for two (including aylesbury duck), bottle of wine, pre dinner drinks, coffee and service was around £150.

And is simply fabulous. Get a table in the conservatory for lunch and hope that they open the roof.

They also do (or at least did) a fixed price menu that was really good.
