I too worship the yellow label brand, its a while since I had bargains like that though.
Cheapest I've had is actually being paid to take stuff away, owing to multiple buy offers.
The supers, especially sainsbury's have really tightened up on the write downs, making them later in the day
and not putting the write downs in one area. Swine!!
What retailer were those from O/P?

Correct it was morissons (nearest supermarket) I guess timing was good as the girl doing the final price downs allowed my missus to pick what she wanted and then marked then down out of our basket!
I've had reasonable success in sainsburys of late but like someone said they appear to be a lot tighter now!
Best we had was when the nearest sainsburys was refitted and made bigger- they clearly had no supply/demand data so we ended up with about a dozen organic chickens, 20 odd different steak cuts and a whole lot more all priced at 25p per item lol

Multiple buy offers. They have seriously tightened up on things so I've not had it happen for a couple of years now , at least.Here's how it happens. The offer is £3 for one , £5 for 2. The stuff is written down to 30p (as example )
You buy 2, at 30p , but because you buy 2 , the £1 off is still active, so they pay you 40p for taking them away.
Last time I had it happen was with King prawns. I bought several , and as the multibuy was particularly aggressive
they paid for the bottle of wine I'd also bought and most of the large box of teabags. I think the lot cost me 40p, or something silly like that.
Total original value was over £20.
That used to be the secret of it, using shops where people were not interested in the reduced stuff, time of plenty, fill a freezer with stuff written down in 2 or 3 days .Its curious really, I've been a yellow lable fan for many years. In past times I've had people look down their noses
at me like I'm some sort of scavenger. These days these self same people descend on the price reduced stuff like vultures
making it difficult at times to get a look in. How times and perceptions change.

Item costs £1. The item is a 'buy one get one free' promotion.Normally, you get two of them and at the checkout the total is £2, and it automatically deducts £1 for the one you get free.
Now, imagine the item gets reduced to 40p and you buy two of them. The total is 80p. The till STILL deducts £1 from your shopping total, and you've now been paid 20p to take them away.
You don't actually get paid, but the 20p reduces the price of the rest of your shopping
if i get to my local sainsbury's around 6:30 they have started the yellow labels but the announcement goes out at 7-ish so you need to get in before otherwise there's just a solid semi circle of people standing around the display staring blankly, occasionally picking something up then putting it down again, for 10 minutes.
