Anyone tried Fugu?
Discussion
I'm currently watching "How do they do that" on Discovery, and they've just had a piece on a poisonous pufferfish called 'Fugu'. So poisonous, that 1/1000th of a gram of the poison in one fish is enough to kill, and there is no antidote.
The main bits of the fish that are poisonous are the eyes and guts, which are kept under lock and key when removed to avoid homeless people eating it from bins and subsequently snuffing it, and it takes 16 litres of water per fish to ensure that the poisonous blood is safely washed off the meat.
So, any PHers stepped up to the plate, so to speak?

Many times, its a delicacy in Japan, and actually OK to eat.
They usually serve it in Fugu restaurants, where you get the fish served many different ways.
Sashimi, deep fried, in a nabe (like a stew/soup) etc etc.
The fugu sashimi (thin slivers of raw fish) are cut so that when you eat it your lips/mouth will actually start to feel tingly because of the toxins remaining in the flesh. Not an unpleasent feeling, definitely one to try if you visit tokyo!

Why don't you eat one and tell us the results.
I'm sure this could become epic.
If I spell anything RONG I don't care, so keep on topic!
I can't stand sushi or sashimi personally. I'm sure this could become epic.

Why would it become epic, it's a genuine question... Or are you posting to be edgy and 'aloof'?

Interesting!! I read an account of someone who ate a fugu liver and ended up being violently ill for three days while the low levels of toxin left his body! They usually serve it in Fugu restaurants, where you get the fish served many different ways.

Sounds a bit nuts to me!!
I've trid to get Fugu a few times in the past. Nearly all of the places I tried flatly refused. One didn't, the Chef insisted I watched him very closely whilst he prepared it. Then I had to sign a disclaimer (I doubt it would have actually been worth the paper it was written on if I had of pegged out), but hey ho. The Fugu tasted a bit like squid.
