Eating a massive steak

Hello,

Next Thursday I am going to a restaurant where one option is a 72 Oz steak which is free if you eat it within one hour.

Has anyone on here ever tried a food based challenge like this ? As a guide I have eaten steaks of around 40Oz then pudding in the past but wonder if this could be a meal too far.

I did a 42OZ a few weeks ago and struggled as i had a reasonable lunch.

That is the grand daddy of big steak challenges. The one I am doing is at the Green Man in the amusingly named Six Mile Bottom.

It is £60 if you fail, which compares favorably to the £36 for the next biggest menu item which I would have otherwise, thus reducing the gamble to £24.

I attempted a 72oz steak "man v food" challenge a few weeks back, exact same thing, free if consumed within the hour, we failed, only cost £30 though and was amazing steak. I had 22oz left, my mate had 13 oz left, took it home and ate the rest the next 2 nights lol. I have photos, will post in a moment.

Edit: Thought I'd add, no-one managed it this year at the place we go. Last year, 2 people managed it. So in short, you will fail.

i'd imagine the first 2/3 aren't too bad. but there's quite a lot of chewing to be done and your jaw can get tired. it's also not so nice when it gets cold.

having said that i've never tried a 72oz

I had this 1kg (35oz) monster in Rome earlier this year. I managed it, but there was no room for any more. 72oz is crazy time....

Nope, The White Lion, Brinsley, Nottinghamshire! Regular customers there and there normal 16oz "Jurassic Steak" is amazing, so tender and always cooked exactly as you want it. This steak was just the same, really juicy and tender, no fat or grissle.

I've done a 1.1kg steak before, with beer, nachos and pudding. I reckon I could 'ave it! Would love to try. I have eaten a whole chicken to myself twice now in the last two weeks. Am I a pig?

Surely it's just two large rump steaks, side by side... doesn't look at all unfamiliar to me?

Should be good as its a decent venue with a good reputation for quality steak.

I am not 100% convinced to give it a go yet, but having said that the next largest steak on the menu is 32 Oz at £33 ish, so I am really only gambling £27 if it goes wrong and will have enough leftovers for the following few nights.

The one in Texas shows a 1 in 7 success rate for its challenge, on the downside there are more 'big-boned' Americans than Brits but on the upside I reckon in any random group of seven people I will be able to eat the most.
