Microwave meals I can make
Discussion
My partner starts work again next week and will be doing 12 hour shifts so will want to eat her dinner at work.
Would it be possible to prepare a meal the night before that she could reheat in the microwave at work? E.g a roast dinner, curry, salmon and runner beans etc?
I have never reheated food with a microwave before and Internet searches tell me that it will either be fine or give her herpes

My O/H reheats pretty much anything if we happen to have left overs, for her lunch at work.
Make sure its properly hot, its never done her any harm .
Currys, Chilli, Stew, Sunday Roasts, even fajitas.
Any and all left over take away.
Despite all the horror stories she reheats rice regularly and has never died.
I don't know about fish though - not somethign we eat regularly so woulnd't want to offer comment on that.

Fish is pretty much out as it will overcook and be horrible in a MW. But, anything that is cooked thoroughly first time round and has a high liquid content reheats fine. Curries, stews, bolognaise, chilli etc. Jacket spuds reheat fine as will pasta (just wrap it in cling). Is there a fridge at work to keep stuff in? Things like rice are okay as long as you chill it quickly after it is first cooked and keep it in a fridge.
Think about what you can buy as a ready meal and you can replicate most at home yourself.

pretty much most meals are fine to reheat as long as they are cooled and stored correctly in the time between cooking and reheating. Also making sure they are piping hot once re heated.
I do similarly long shifts and take in leftovers/meals prepared before work a lot, yet to be ill from it.
As above gravy/sauces, basically liquid is the key. If its already very dry it won't take to being reheated well.
Peronal favourites are roast with the trimmings, Liver & bacon with mash & broccoli, sausage, onion and gravy pie, stir frys and curries

My only advice would be to avoid reheating rice, as that can go seriously wrong.
As posted earlier, stick to foods that suit rapid reheating and have a high liquid content (such as stews, soups, curries, chilli and the like).
Homemade beef rendang heats up really well in a micro, and you can serve that with micro rice.

Wouldn't bother. As has been said, as long as you can get it in the fridge as soon as its cooled after initial cooking then you should be fine.Ive reheated curries and rice based stuff once or twice a week with no probs, didnt actually know there was any risk to it tho so debating whether to google it now!

I spent a week in hospital seriously ill with food poisoning about a decade ago. Rice was the cause. It is one of the worst foods to get food poisoning from. Do not reheat it-it will end in tears and projectile vomiting and diarrhoea!
I've reheated rice hundreds of times in a microwave with no ill effects. It has to be too hot to eat. Oysters are a bad idea in a microwave.

True, but when you get it served to you in a restaurant, you'd expect that they would adhere to food handling rules. Evidently, in this instance, they didn't. I couldn't bring myself to eat rice for over a year because of how ill I was.Oysters are a bad idea in a microwave.
I think it was Saturday kitchen with James Oliver and Ken Hom.
A viewer phoned in and asked about reheating rice.
I believe James said avoid it as its bad ect ect and ken explained about making sure its hot all the way through the dish and you will be fine.
I know who i believe.
Also I've reheated it hundreds of times. I also havent died yet.

It's got very little to do with how 'hot' you reheat it - it's all about not leaving it 'warm' (including room temp) for a prolonged period of time after first cooking it, as this is the environment that allows the bacteria to accumulate AND produce toxins that aren't removed by the reheating process...
(I've also never had a problem with reheating it, even before I became aware of the above - but the effects do seem rather nasty, so I'd rather ensure I bung it in the fridge ASAP!)

Cheers for the replies! Is chicken ok to reheat too? I have head that it is dangerous but on the other hand you can buy microwaveable chicken meals so a bit confused by that too!
Basically she is trying to eat healthily at the moment and does not want to start eating crap again because she is at work and limited on cooking options (plus she has the cooking ability of a hedgehog!)

I've never suffered from reheated chicken. As long as you cook it throughly. Let it cool then get it in the fridge so it stays cold and you reheat it so all the meat is piping its fine.
Just reheated a egg noodle/chicken/mushroom/onion stir fry in chow mein sauce for lunch as it happens. Made it at home last night.
