Gerrard Street - which restaurant was it......??

A few years ago I had an excellent meal at a restaurant in Gerrard Street (Chinatown, just off Shaftesbury Ave) and fancy going back. The problem is I can't find any texts/emails which would give me the name....

Having looked on Google maps I think it was the Four Seasons, but completely unsure, I do remember that it was the north side and the door was to the right....

So PH, any ideas/suggestions that if it wasn't the Four Seasons, which one was it and which ones have you been to which would be worth recommending??

Sorry - yes it was street view that I used to find the Four Seasons, but it's reviews aren't the best on Trip Advisor which makes me question if that was it.

Leongs Legends and Bar Shu (actually the other side of Shaftsbury Avenue) are the ones i would go to.

That's what I'm thinking - 5 years is a lot in London and I guess the place could've had a complete change of staff, maybe even changed hands.

I used to use the Canton (on Newport Place) weekly, but it appears to have changed hands and gone right downhill now...http://www.london-eating.co.uk/2963.htm Shame. No idea why people who take over restaurants so often do this, probably chasing a little extra profit.

Yes, looking at the reviews for the Four Seasons the same could've happened there.

The restaurants in Gerrard St and the surrounding alleys in Chinatown change hands very regularly. This, and the fact that many seem to deteriorate immediately after take-over has lead to much speculation.

Speculation seems to centre on the businesses being used as fronts for washing cash generated from other more nefarious means, rather than as bonefide business opportunities in their own right.

Having spent many years working in that very part of town, I can only reiterate that there is no smoke without fire!

My own favorite is Imperial China, on Lisle Street (runs parallel to, and is behind, Gerrard St)

I use the Joy King Lau, which is just round the corner (from Leicester Square go to the street that the M&M building (used to be the Swizz building) is on the corner of, head up there just past the pub, it's the second restaurant.

It's been under the same family for god knows how long, is always full of Chinese, and where the BBC (British Born Chinese society) meet (or at least used to when a friend was a member).

It's not the best Chinese ever, but it's consistently one of the best in 'that' area.
