Question - Why are these the things people panic buy?

There is something about the first smattering of snow which awakens some kind of animalistic craving for these 2 perishable goods in the morons of this nation. Why not pasta, or canned goods?

Answer - People are idiots.

If it wasn't there we could of course go without but why should we need to?

You can't make a butty or a brew with pasta.

One of the strangest threads I have read.

If civilisation was to come to an end, the best things would be non-perishable canned and dried goods.

As its probably just a few days where 'civilisation ends' because of the snow before starting a new on Monday morning, milk and bread would make up the staple diet for the vast majority of people.

In such a case where civilisation is coming to an end, milk and bread should be an after thought as it takes electricity to power a freezer so freezing can't be relied upon.

Because fresh milk and fresh bread are the core items that many people buy every couple of days.
(yes, you can freeze them, but they taste much better fresh).

Pretty much everything else you only buy weekly or monthly.


What I don't understand is why they think that a bit of snow will mean they can't go to the shops for days on end... at most it might be a day or two IF things get REALLY bad. Which is somewhat unlikely here in the UK!

I'm going to go and get a few loafs, so I can make a new suit out of bread

I have a breadmaker so is very easy to make a loaf I also have a backup supply of UHT milk...for use in emergencies

I did go to the supermarket Thursday and buy some fresh milk, and was surprised how empty the crates (that hold the milk) were.
