Has restauant photography gone too far?

I don't generally take a picture of my dinner in restaurants unless what I’ve chosen is out of the ordinary, for example, in Chicago I had deep dish pizza. Most people at home wouldn’t believe you could cram so much cheese into one meal! It also formed part of the holiday memories.

My thoughts exactly. I try and avoid restaurants where people are in the habit of doing this. I have a personal dislike for photographs of food of any kind and have never, ever photographed a dish before eating it.

Rarely do you see a table of diners taking more than a few shots of their food. Most don't do it at all and those who do tend to do it discreetly and without flash.
They're paying for the occasion whether it's fine dining or a burger bar. Therefore they get to choose if they snap or not.
I tend to photograph most noteworthy meals to share on here or Instagram. Never have I caused offence in a restaurant, although I admit my wife gets a bit annoyed from time to time.
Five years ago I'd have thought it absurd to share pictures in such a way. It goes to show how smart phones and the digitisation of photography, as well as 3G and wireless has changed how we share things with our friends and those Internet folk like you lot.
I do think those that moan about it are generally missing the point. There are many food lovers out there and it's really no different to taking shots of other memorable occasions which they'd no doubt deem acceptable.
