I have the opportunity to get a set of 5 WMF pans with cool+ for around £220 (normally quite a bit more), thougs on whether it is worth the premium (other brands also on sale).

The cool+ would be nice as ive burnt my fingers badly a couple of times, nut have read mixed reviews on the quality of WMF lately.

Will the rubber parts last? Are they really dishwasher safe?

Thanks

If you're really that slow a learner, then perhaps they are worth it. As with most things like this the important questions won't be answered until people have been using them for 5 years or so...

Their own blurb is somewhat inconclusive and/or muddled anyway:

blurb said:
During use, both for quick intense heating as well as for long-lasting cooking, the temperatures of the pots equipped with the WMF Cool+ handle technology always remain below the level of comparable products and are always comfortable to touch.
Presumably they mean handles. If the pots don't get hot, surely the food doesn't get cooked.

Or you could just remember to use a cloth or a glove.

ETA: sets of 4 on amazon for £149

Thanks. I saw that too, the set of 4. The setof 5 is 250 or more, i assume to the inclusion of the biggest one.

Not quite sure what is meant by slow learner, Ive had metal pots for years, but fancied some really decent ones and wondered if it was worth the investment.

Cool+ seems like a nice feature in a busy kitchen.

Some reviewers claimed their old models lasted 2 decades or more.

and you've also burnt yourself 'badly' a few times.

As a former kitchenware salesperson, I'd say paying extra for a gimmick (which this feature is, really) is not going to get better VFM unless you really 'need' the feature because you burn yourself every week on pans.

Most pans at this price point are very similar, hence this 'innovation' to try and stand out as much as offer any real world benefit which is worth the extra cost.

when I was selling, Le Pentole were the ones considered at the top of the heap, but they were, and still appear to be, ridiculously expensive.

At around this price point, Stellar look to be good value now. I use them at the moment and they're very good, solidly built and heat evenly although the handles do get hot of course.

Cool+ doesn't seem worth it to me. It won't save you if you've put the saucepan in the oven, then back on the hob, then forget and pick it up. And that is the only way I've properly burned myself.

I just drape a tea towel over a very hot handle to remind myself and keep 1kg frozen peas handy.

As a salesman you should be picking up on the details wink

I've burnt myself a 'couple' of times (not a few times), and have you not noticed, this is probably an excuse to get some decent shiny pans? wink

Besides the fact, it's 60% off what it normally costs here (I'm not in the UK-expat), I enjoy cooking, so fancied some opinions of those that have them and those that don't, rather than condescending posts about my perceived intellect, or other brands I don't have the opportunity to buy.

Very good point - however I rarely put pans in the oven (never), so not an issue for me.

Good set of oven gloves are cheaper and a good routine to get into. One trip to A+E many years ago for a scald was enough, cheap coffee pot, push plunger, poor seal and boiling water up my arm. OK, no gloves would have helped but the pain sort of said "GOTCHA!" and don't want that gain.

Anything that can cause me a burn I treat with caution and proven protection.

Thanks for the link, now I understand. (sorry, the couple of glasses I had last night clouded my judgement spin)

Nearly all my pans have plastic handles on them so it couldn't be a problem for me, (haha, call me an amateur smile) the only one that isn't is the solid Le Creuset griddle pan and I know to avoid grabbing hold of that when it's been on a while.
I guess some people can just sense danger better than others....

If you think they'll help and you've got the cash to splash then give them a go, presumably they have a guarantee so you can send them back if they don't perform.

Yes, only because of the huge discount did I entertain it. I saw other pans without it, for the same price. My main concern was whether the rubber would reduce the life span of the pans. I assume they wouldn't last 20 years like the solid metal ones.

For the money it's a bargain - I wouldn't pay RRP for them (over £400)

It's silicone 'rubber' so very durable, what is the guarantee on them?

Former salesman.

This is PH - condescension is SOP, surely?

Everyone has the opportunity to buy Stellar, they're everywhere.

Good luck with your pans!
