Toaster puzzle
Discussion
Ok, I was asked a question the other day by a work mate, but I was unable to come up with a sensible answer. So lets see if the people of PH can do any better
Right, basically she was asking why when she cooks toast in this toaster...

for two minutes, it comes out like this...

But if she heats a pancake...

...between cooking batches of toast, and then puts bread into the toaster for the usual two mins, it burns.
Why?

I had a toaster once that, when confronted with a pancake, would rend a small, but signifcant, rift in the space time continuum.
It took me much research in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicles to discover that this rift led to Somerset in the late 9th century.
A peasant kitchen, to be precise.
Perhaps the same is happening to your chum?

Those aren't pancakes
(I can't even see the pictures at work, but what I know of as pancakes are usually liquid before they're cooked, so would do very strange things in a toaster, like run out the bottom)
Different types. There are pancakes made with raising agents which are what Americans would call pancakes. Also known as Scotch Pancakes. This is what the OP has, precooked ones that you reheat in a toaster.

What you are referring to have no raising agent... these are called 'crêpes' in France, and they are what the British call pancakes, and have on Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday), usually with sugar and lemon juice.

But I've always called them "pancakes"!
