My wife and I have just eaten a tub of Waitrose Madagascan Vanilla Custard, which expired on 4 March (this was accompanied by an Essential Waitrose Lemon Curd Sponge, expiry date May 2013). If I do not post here again by 1800 tomorrow, the use by date means something.

I had a dog called Rupert. He is now no more. He did not die of custard but of old age. If you did die and you see him, please say hello.

Expiry dates are a con. If it looks and smells OK, eat it

I've eaten crab sticks that had been in the freezer for seven years, and I'm still here.

They tasted ok actually. A relative (by marriage thank God) made them into a seafood risotto.
