Do they work?

I'm often * ahem * pumping away downstairs with the ones we got from Waitrose. Next night, the wine is rubbish. We've got the grey rubbers oens.

More confusingly, my Father in law bought over half a bottle that had been in his fridge for 2 days, with no more than the screw cap in place.. and it's pretty much as good as new.

Dont get it.

My wife uses Vacu Vin. Works for days, even over a week.

Haven't tried the more sophisticated systems so can't comment, but some wines will survive (or even improve) from a little oxidisation, some won't... Personally, I'd just MTFU and drink the lot!

(Or freeze the leftovers into cubes for cooking with!)

Apparently it's quite common

/the rubber bungs with the vacuum pump work well. Use them at work at it keeps the wine well overnight but turnover means nothing sits open or more than 24-36 hours anyway.

Aaah, this will be what we call in Yorkshire the "Summat for nowt effect".

This means that anything free somehow tastes better than expected.

Also explains why we keep going back for more at crap buffets...

Vac u vin

Load of old ste.

I have several and it doesn't do anything to preserve the wine beyond the regulation 24 hours. Ish.

I've even seen people put nitrogen in the bottle before the vac-u-vin before now (trust me, wine vendors want this to work). It doesn't.

Drink the bottle. Or freeze it up for cooking. No bottle preservation method works satisfactorily that I have found so far...
