I've not been for quite a few years (probably 10 now!) but it used to be OK. They did great garlic bread (roasted bulbs of garlic).
Somewhere I have returned to (though again not for a few years) is Bryce's which is about 10-20mins south of Dorking. This used to be very good.
No idea whether either were dog friendly.

The new menu appears to be pointing in the right direction with a small number of dishes which they can hopefully execute well, rather than 30 mains and 10 specials: http://www.king-williamiv.com/

Thanks, I will update you. Flying visit, so a stop in Mickelham will be easier. I'm collecting some car parts in Dorking on the way back from visiting relatives, so just want somewhere pleasent to keep Mrs Doc happy.
