Not sure if this count, but I simply grate 4 or 5 potatoes, squeeze out all the liquid with a tea towel (there are probably easier ways) and salt. I then heat a pan with olive oil (not butter as that burns) and press the potato mixture on to it, press it down and shape every now and then, turning occasionally - 10-15 minutes later, lovely Hash Browns

Tried this BBC recipe a couple of times (http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/hashbrowns_12454) which makes decent hash browns but involves a lot of labour for something that isn't very special.
Suggestions for good hash brown recipes that don't take ages to make please.
Define "ages to make" ??Suggestions for good hash brown recipes that don't take ages to make please.

I buy them frozen for a quid a bag from Asda - I know its a bit of a cop out but they taste as good as anythign i've tried to make and when I want a fry up to cure my hangover, I quite like being able to bung them straight in the oven.
This.Rostis are a bit of a pain to make unfortunately.

With peeling them and grating the onion, it feels like a long time for something so basic; I want to eat them as part of a breakfast that otherwise takes a few minutes. The BBC recipe says at least 30 minutes preparation time. How long does it take you to grate some potato and fry it???

BBC Hash brown recipe says 30-60 minutes preparation time, 10-30 minutes cooking time.
I've just done that recipe, with bacon, poached egg and coffee, with pics and notes, in 26 minutes end to end.
Pics/timings to follow, I've got some eating to do.

Hash brown with poached-egg and bacon:

Subsequent experimentage with the remaining HB mixture showed that I needed much more veg oil in the pan. My hash brown was more of a rosti really. They do need a serious glug of oil to fry. I think these came out much better:

Nom! Nom! Nom!
Right, I really must get some work done now.
