any Ale drinkers here?

having been to only one brewery for a tour in the new forest, and having not drunk much real ale, as I tend to stick to spirits or wine, I thought I was ask what ales have you drunk and what did you think.

I am soo happy that my local sainsburys now stocks Ringwood 'Old Thumper'

now I really like the ringwood brews, and that was the brewery tour I went on.

i like malty ales but don't really know whats what when it comes down to it. I know i have tried a only a few different ales and didn't like most but like nearly all the ringwood ones.

OP, I didnt mean to be flippant, more to add further detail to yuor thread.

Get yourself into some good proper alehouses, and also look for local beer fests over the summer.

The only way to find the beer you like is try them all!

Three of my faves: Wychwood Hobgoblin/King Goblin, McEwans Champion, Shepard Neame 1698.
As you can probably tell, I like to get drunk.

I don't mind doom bar draught,but not a fan of it bottled .

I'm really lucky having a great local brewery in Tring that makes great beer.

Also a big fan of Fullers and WYchwood.

Hobgoblin's a good'un, there's always a couple of bottles in the flat, along with stuff from Loddon Brewery which are all very drinkable. Occasionally I'll treat myself to a couple of bottles of Innis and Gunn rum cask too, it's a right good tipple.

Why don't we start an 'official' ale thread instead of all these little ones that keep popping up?

For the record, I'm a big convert to ale, gone from hating lager, big cider drinker to massive ale drinker. And I'm only 21, old before my time!

Off to a beer festival in a few weeks. Jaipur is my all time favourite, but lots of micro-breweries in Newcastle are knocking out some brilliant beers. Speaking of Doom Bar, find it a bit boring in my opinion, not much to it.

Another Malty fan, Old Thumper's a good choice. Badger and Wytchwood do several you'll like, plus there's Marstons Old Peculiar and Fullers London Pride.

My Mrs is a fan of the hoppy beers and smokey porters that I don't like so between us we get through just about everything

My local does a good beer festival. Had blackout from big lamp brewery last month. Delicious and decent strength at 11%. Bit of a port aftertaste to it. Not as good as the strong Belgium beers but nice for an English real ale.

I'll agree with Jaipur,that really is a top notch beer.
In all honesty,get to a real ale festival,go with a few mates,you will enjoy it,if they have bands on it can be quite a good night.
IMHO,bottles beers are ok,but you can't beat it straight from the barrel.

A similar thing happened to me, I likened it to my taste buds going through puberty. Hasn't happened to most of my mates, so I feel right grown up.
