Low Alcohol Wine

There is no such thing as low alcohol wine which actually tastes any good.

If I want to limit alcohol intake, I drink ordinary white or rosé wine but put lots of ice in it.

Some of the very sweet wines are relatively low alcohol, but in my experience I have never had a low alcohol wine that works. However, if you want to avoid alcohol you could always limit your intake. Better to have a nice glass of wine than half a bottle of plonk.

The vast majority of low alcohol wine is foul muck, however contrary to all the naysayers above there are a few reasonably drinkable alcohol free wines. Of course they are not the same as normal wine but they are however a very pleasant drink reminiscent of wine with a lot of the flavours and dryness of the real thing. Like 'leaded' wine, you very much get what you pay for with 'unleaded'.

If you want bubbles then believe it or not Sainsburys own brand Low Alcohol Sparkling "Wine" (the one with the white neck foil) is actually very pleasant to drink and will pass as champagne by appearance.

Not surprising everyone says unleaded wines are always st, if you pay 2 or 3 quid a bottle for leaded it will be st as well.

According to the duty calculator http://www.cellarexchange.com/tax_calculator.html the duty on a £10 bottle of wine is £2 (plus VAT) so hardly the majority of the purchase price!. The wine I linked to is of the quality of a £10-£15 wine and then processed to remove the alcohol so the £10 price is actually perfectly reasonable.

If you have not tried them yourself then you are in no position to accuse anyone of taking the piss! I have and consider them to be acceptably prices for the same sort of occasion that I would have bought an equivalent bottle of normal wine.

As you are perfectly aware ,I was meaning in ("leaded)" In the case of a £2-£3 bottle of wine, as example at present in the UK a £5.00 bottle of wine constitutes as a part of that price, approx £2.64 tax, so , lower the price, the less the actual value of the wine. . Alcohol free wine does, or should not be attracting such a tax level, after all, if no alcohol, its just a soft drink. So yes, taking the piss, do I smell self interest?
