Restaurant Coventry Birmingham area - recs for tomorrow

Right, wedding anniversary tomorrow. Card and pressie sorted. I was just about to make a restaurant booking but tbh I would like to try somewhere different. I had been thinking of doing the Saxon Mill near Warwick as the something different but frankly it's a bit cold for riverside dining.

So we are close to Coventry and Solihull, and can get to Birmingham easily. Can anyone suggest anywhere for a nice lunch please? Note we are having to bring the little one with us too so can't go too posh.

The White Lion in Brownshill Green is my local and is very nice, the Bull and Butcher at Corley is also very good for pub grub if that's what you fancy.

Both are child friendly

How about The Cross Kenilworth. It's had it's ups and downs but now very good.

Thanks both. I'm not too sure of the Bull and Butcher. We used to drink there and reviews of the food weren't great. The Cross looks quite nice. Been past it but never stopped.

Been a while since I lived in Solihull but The Boot at Lapworth was always very good, and I had a few nice lunches at The Orange Tree in Chadwick End - both within easy reach of the M42.

Agree with lurking lawyer above, also try the malt shovel at barston. The lazy cow in Solihull is meant to be good for steak but haven't got round to trying it yet.

The crab mill at Preston bagot is also worth a look, and the cock inn at wishaw too, both probably 20-30 mins from Solihull.

Not for tommorow (too cold) but for riverside dining try Stratford on Avon. The former Cox's Yard is now a Lazy Cow.

After enduring a very charred burger in Warwick, I think I'll give them a miss. Also think their steak prices are a tad high.

I moved out of the area 9 years or so ago so it's perhaps not surprising that I didn't know Shelley Barn had beeen taken over by the people who own The Boot! I used to live just around the corner from there, just off Widney Lane.

It used to do decent feed when I lived there, and was a nice n building, but it was essentially pub grub. Sounds like it has gone up in the world!

I think I'll also put a few of the others on the list for a visit (or revisit, in a couple of cases).

Right, first off, I've now been to the Orange Tree and Crabmill. Both were very good.

Secondly, I need another rec please.

I now need to take someone out for lunch tomorrow somewhere between Solihull and Rugby. The trick is it needs to be cool inside or have a shaded outside eating area. I suspect that the Saxon Mill near Warwick will be rammed due to the waterside aspect. Is there anywhere else?
