Lobsters

So following from my hugely successful Asparagus thread . Can anyone suggest where I can get Lobsters from, now I know it shouldn't be difficult but we live in a rural county, don't have a local fishmonger and even Waitrose don't do them (they only do tails).

Any ideas ladies and gents?

I alsways thought they were a one off when Aldi/Lidl did them - I'll have a look though.

Yes I like the look of that and they will supply it live or cooked.

Don't bother with Lidl / any supermarket frozen lobsters unless they're very cheap - £4.00 or below. I promise you you'll be disappointed.

If these are all you can get, the way to get the best out of them is to remove all packaging and soak them for a good six hours in lots of fresh water. This gets rid of the nasty 'anti-freeze' taste of the ice they're packed in.

However what you'll be left with still won't taste that good. There's a reason fresh lobster is expensive.

My local Makro surprised me with a tank full of lobster. No idea if that's a national idea though.

Very true, and also paid for all my Italian motorcycles throughout College! Jolly dangerous job too.

Live lobsters are just better, end off. If you don't fancy boiling them at home, you can split them down the middle, a very sharp knife into the head and down the body. Remove any internal nasties and grill in the shell. Very yummy just brushed with butter and a bit of black pepper.

to the fat fk who performed in that video. No that is not how you dispatch a lobster. You put the chap in the freezer and they hibernate after 2 hours. Then you stab it in the head.

Sorry chaps, not the best video. It just happened to come-up first as an after thought.

20 mins/half an hour in a freezer is good enough, 2 hours seems a bit much.

Makro do ones in that ball park. Reasonably edible as I recall.

Going to start off with Waitrose Lobster tails. I found quite a nice simple recipe on their website involving grilled tails.
