Decent Whisky / Port for 60th

Not a clue about Port, basically, good vintage stuff is way above your budget, to my knowledge anyhow.
As regarding whisky, Talisker 10, and Springbank 10 are good bets, both top rate whiskies and within your budget. On top
of that, both are relatively easily sourced, most supers do the Tali, and Waitrose do the Springbank.

Port wise, you should be able to get a nice colheita (tawny from a single vintage) for that sort of money, which will be better than the average supermarket stuff.Any recommendations as I know nothing (other than he likes both)?
What whisky does he currently drink? Whisky is so varied you can easily get something that people don't like...
Whilst things like Glenfiddich are great (and I am personally a big fan) I'd be wanting to get something other than a bottle stocked by the local supermarket.

Not tight, just a complex relationship - not exactly close but should still get him more than the usual bottle of red.I think Port is more personal , whiskey less so..is there an E in whisky ?

Ok got my step mother to check the cupboards and he already has a bottle of Famous Grouse and a bottle of Maxwell single malt so they are the current tipples. Does that help with narrowing down some options?Legend83 said:

It tends to imply that he will be pleasantly pleased with a good single malt. Just about any single malt. 
Irrespective of what others have said, I'd still go for Talisker 10 or the Springbank with you budget.
Perhaps best to avoid the Islays, perhaps a bit too hefty for him.
