Can anyone advise, are these any good?

They make claims, but do they turn out chips etc, tasting like they had been deep fried, or just spiel to flog
an expensive gadget?

Here's a tefal offering: http://www.ebuyer.com/478031-tefal-fz700215-actifr...

And another thingumy, which proclaims to be an oven as against a fryer et al: http://www.ebuyer.com/478255-team-crf3t-visicook-c...

Any opinions/experience gladly received. Ta!

My mum has the Tefal. I was impressed with the chips that it produced with just some blanched potatoes and a tablespoon of oil. They're not quite as good as if they'd been cooked in a pan of dripping, of course, but I think I'm going to replace my scant used deep fryer with one.

We like ours - but the price on your link (and the Tefal website) !!
We have the ''Designer Outlet'' at York and Tefal have a shop there. The prices are much cheaper - £130 instead of perhaps £200 (subject to specific model).

If you know someone with a Makro card, they do the Tefal on special every few months. Think they are around £79 + vat. Just to add, that's for the white one, black one is £99 +

Thanks folks, impressions seem pretty positive then.

Something to mull over I think, interesting to hear that the Tefal is normally cheaper than the link I found, helps make things perhaps more viable.

Not used a tefal thingy but we produce superb tasting chips roasted in the oven.
Peel potatos and hand cut your chips.
Into a pan of cold water and bring to boil. Discard the water and rinse the chips in fresh water. Bring back to boil again, meanwhile place a lightly oiled roasting tin in the oven at around 200c.
Pour off the water again when chips are back to the boil. Lightly season the chips in the saucepan then splash on some oil and gently shake the pan to coat the chips. Wack the chips in the hot roasting tin for about 20 minutes (or longer) depending how crispy you require them.
Yummy!
