A night in Doncaster

Hi all,

Could any of our Northern brethren recommend somewhere decent to eat (curry house or similar) in Doncaster?

A colleague and I will be up there staying over night next week, recommendations for watering holes would also be greatly received

I can't believe I'm reading this! I'll tell the Mayor we have visitors - it's a rare treat in 'Donny'!

Town Centre will be dead but: I'd suggest Relish Bar and Grill. There's a bit of atmosphere and the food is quite good. Try the king prawn bruschetta and the squid. Mains aren't as special.

If you'd prefer 'real' chinese then go to China Palace on Silver Street. If you can forgive the overbearing Manager and order the three roast platter, minced pork and aubergine casserole, some chinese greens and the seafood udon noodles, you're on to a winner.

If you want a nicer environment then you could always get a taxi to Bawtry where the China Rose is excellent, or the Dower House for a curry.

Actually, you may enjoy Aagrah at Woodlands. It's out of the centre but is rather good. Elachi at Armthorpe is also worth a visit.

Don't go to Taj Mahal - it's terrible, as is Doncaster Tandoori!

What about pubs/bars? Any places to definitely try or to avoid?

Avoid Silver Street - all bars there are terrible.

Go to Relish, Priory, Bistro Bar and Grill, and that is it mid week. Weekends are like being in Tenerife.

Get taxis everywhere in Donny. They're ludicrously cheap compared to down south!
