Shrimp with shells!

My wife has suddenly decided she wants some shrimp and I'm wondering where I can get them from - she's looking for shrimp with shells still on (and definitely shrimp, not prawns).

I've found a couple of online frozen fish sellers but they sell brown shrimp that has been de-shelled.

Any suggestions?

I've only ever seen brown shrimps for sale with shells on in France.

Believe me, with the effort involved in peeling the little buggers to get enough for a 'prawn' cocktail, you'll want to buy them shelled.

Very popular in North Germany (krabben) so maybe try Deutschsee who are based in Hamburg if you are really in need of them.

Chinese supermarkets tend to have these frozen and sometimes fresh.

larger Wing Yip stores have huge fresh fish counters these days.

wing yip deffo way to go if you live near one of their wholesale places. We go to the one in Manchester about once every two months.

Ah - crunchy.

Wing Yip / Hoo Hing probably your best bet.

The Fish Society will also do you everything from the little Brown Shrimp (i.e. Morcambe Bay stylee that often ends up potted) to Pink Shrimp to smaller Atlantic prawns to King Prawns...all raw shell and head on. And post it in dry ice (oh the fun).

Bit of a minefield size and nomenclature wise !

Cheers for the above suggestions, given me a couple more places to try. I think I found exactly what she's after on the Fish society's website, just a shame the total cost is more than I'd expect.

Alas, I'm not in impulse distance of a bigger chinese supermarket though if she's still after them I may pop down anyway. Think I'm going to try morrisons - heard their fishmongers are on the better side of supermarket fishmongers. (Tesco's is bloody dire - going to tar all with the same brush as my local one).

I'd be amazed if any supermarket has them with shells on. Is there a fishmonger in your local town, you should be able to buy a pint of them for £2-3?
